Why was it so hard to find pictures of a comparison between the UK (top) and US (bottom) Macbook keyboards?

Even though I'm in London, the US keyboard seems to be exactly the same as my VAIO's layout, and programming isn't such a chore - on the UK keyboard, to get a # you need to press Alt-3. Who would comment their code after a while?

Monokai theme for gedit

I’m a big fan of Textmate’s Monokai theme, but until I save up to buy a new Macbook Pro I’ll be using Gedit on Ubuntu Jaunty.

Gedit uses GtkSourceView for it’s syntax highlighting:

GtkSourceView is a portable C library that extends the standard GTK+ framework for multiline text editing with support for configurable syntax highlighting, unlimited undo/redo, UTF-8 compliant caseless searching, printing and other features typical of a source code editor.

Unfortunately GtkSourceView doesn’t offer all the syntax highlighting hooks of the Textmate engine, so I just ended up borrowing the colours from the Monokai theme, and porting them to a new Gedit theme.

Download it and drop it in:

/usr/share/gtksourceview-2.0/styles/monokai.xml

There’s a vim/gvim port if you swing that way.
